Osafjord RIB safari from Ulvik
From Ulvik and the Hardanger Bridge to roadless settlements, waterfalls, and quiet fjord landscapes deep inside the Osafjord.
About the experience
From Ulvik and the Hardanger Bridge to roadless settlements, waterfalls, and quiet fjord landscapes deep inside the Osafjord.
This RIB safari takes you from Ulvik into the Osafjord – a varied fjord branch known for its roadless settlements, waterfalls, and traces of life once shaped entirely by the fjord. The route is designed to showcase both open fjord scenery and more sheltered inner landscapes, creating clear contrasts along the way.
We depart from Ulvik and cruise out into the Hardangerfjord towards the Hardanger Bridge, Norway’s longest suspension bridge and a striking landmark in the fjord scenery. After passing beneath the bridge, we turn back into the Osafjord from the main fjord and continue along the eastern, roadless side of the fjord – an area only accessible by boat.
Along the route, we pass the former fjord settlement Bagnstrondi, the powerful Døgro waterfall cascading directly into the fjord, and the abandoned mountain farm Sygnestveit. Your local guide shares stories about life along the fjord, where the sea was once the only connection to the outside world, and how people lived closely with the landscape for generations.
The Osafjord changes character throughout the year. In spring and after rainfall, the waterfalls are at their most dramatic. During calm summer days, the fjord feels open and peaceful, while autumn offers crisp air and clear light. The tour is adapted to the conditions, with several scenic stops along the way so you can fully take in the surroundings.
This trip offers a balanced mix of excitement and tranquillity. On open stretches, you’ll feel the power and speed of the RIB, while along the roadless section of the fjord we slow down, allowing the atmosphere, stories, and scenery to take centre stage.
