See all dates and details for this experienceAbout the experience
A small-group RIB safari from Norheimsund to Fyksesund and Botnen — one of the most dramatic, untouched and secluded fjord branches in Hardanger. An easy day trip from Bergen by car or public bus, and a quieter, more exclusive alternative to Norway’s busiest fjord destinations.
Experience the Hardangerfjord at its most secluded and authentic. This small-group RIB safari takes you from Norheimsund into the quiet and dramatic Fyksesund — a fjord branch framed by steep mountainsides, seasonal waterfalls and a rare sense of stillness.
While many visitors follow the crowds to Norway’s busiest fjord viewpoints, this tour gives you a more personal way to experience the fjord landscape. We head south through the strait, continue east along the main Hardangerfjord, and then enter Fyksesund — one of the most secluded fjord branches in the region.
The inner 5 km of this 10 km fjord branch feel untouched and peaceful, far from roads, traffic and busy tourist stops. Here, the fjord narrows, the mountains rise steeply from the water, and the atmosphere becomes slower and more intimate. We make a stop outside Botnen, an old roadless hamlet that gives the tour a strong connection to authentic local life along the fjord.
Fyksesund changes character throughout the year. During snowmelt and on rainy days, countless waterfalls appear along the mountainsides. In winter, many of them freeze into striking ice formations, adding another layer to the raw and secluded feel of the landscape.
Along the way, our local captain makes several guided stops so you can take in the scenery, ask questions and get closer to the stories behind the landscape. We share local knowledge about the fjord’s history, nature and culture — giving you a deeper understanding of why Hardangerfjord is not the second choice, but the exclusive choice for travellers looking for something more genuine, quiet and memorable.
