  • On January 22nd, 1901, one of the most dramatic events in Norwegian coastal history struck the tiny fishing settlement of Sandsundvær.


TOUR DESCRIPTION

Historical Sea Tour with Adventure Helgeland


We make a short stop at Herøy Brygge to welcome additional guests on board, before continuing seaward toward the exposed island cluster of Sandsundvær.

Along the way, your guide shares vivid stories of the fishing community that once thrived here — and of the fateful morning in 1901, when the storm hit with unimaginable force.


Hail the size of hen’s eggs

houses torn from their foundations, and families fighting for their lives in darkness and chaos.

When conditions allow, we go ashore on selected islets. Here you will see the remnants of old foundations, learn where the boathouses and homes once stood, and sense how overwhelming the sea must have been that night when the settlement was swept away.
