Sea Kayaking Basic Course (Våttkort)

Our courses focus on quality, enjoyment, and safety - so that you feel confident and well prepared to paddle at sea on your own after completing the course.

The course includes the “Våttkort Basic Sea Kayaking” certificate, issued by the Norwegian Paddle Association.

Price includes:

Våttkort certificate, use of kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, and spraydeck

If you have your own kayak, we recommend using it.

In the colder seasons: drysuit rental to keep you warm throughout the course.

About the course:

The Basic Sea Kayaking course provides a practical introduction to sea kayaking and related equipment. Through simple and effective exercises, you'll learn to handle the kayak safely and efficiently. After completing the course, participants will have basic knowledge of paddling techniques, safety routines, and navigation at sea.

The course covers:

• Lifting, carrying, launching, and entering the kayak
• Efficient forward paddling
• Reverse paddling and stopping
• Sideways movement of the kayak
• Low brace
• Stern rudder
• Turning techniques (sweep strokes and rudder strokes)
• Landing and securing the kayak
• Rescue techniques
• Injury prevention
• Planning and carrying out a short trip
• Basic safety and seamanship
• Outdoor ethics, the Right of Public Access, and Leave No Trace principles

Getting Here

If you are travelling from Sandnessjøen, you can take the ferry from Søvik to Herøy. Our courses are scheduled to align with the ferry timetable, making it easy to attend.
