Cycling through the Lofoten Islands is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, where you connect to the dramatic landscape that changes with the light. As you cycle, we encourage you to combine natural and cultural experiences.

With the Midnight Sun from June to mid-July, and the Northern Lights visible from late August this place will amaze you in any season. Along the way you can stop to savor local delicacies, and traditional dishes from Lofoten. Explore old churches, museums that provide insights into Lofoten` s history and culture, or go fishing, hiking, or kayaking.

This unforgettable bike ride starts in Svolvær, where you will be greeted by boats resting on the calm water of the harbor, surrounded by majestic mountains. As you pedal onwards, Lofoten’ s wild beauty unfolds before you.The charming fishing village Henningsvær, nestled on a cluster of islets with a backdrop of mountains, is a must-see place. Staying at Lofoten Links Lodges, nestled amidst rugged mountains and white sandy beaches in Hov, the lodges provide stunning views of the midnight sun and the ocean. You can enjoy playing golf at the world-class Lofoten Links course nearby.

The cultural gem Nusfjord offers a glimpse into Norway`s maritime heritage amidst a stunning natural setting.

The route leads you through lush meadows, where sheep graze in the green grass and rivers wind through the scenery. You`ll pass by small farms and courtyards that provide a glimpse into the everyday life of the locals in this rugged environment. Enjoy the fresh sea breeze as you cycle past small fishing huts and pristine white beaches that seem lost in time. The tour ends in beautiful Reine, surrounded by pointy peaks, fjords, and the traditional fishermen`s cabins.

Please note that Lofoten is a very popular place for a short while during the summer months, with few hotels. Some traffic must be expected, and varied accommodation is offered. In the high season you must be prepared to share the main road with many buses and campervans.

Day 1: Friday

Arrival to Svolvær, Lofoten

How to travel to Svolvær (not included)

- Flight to Svolvær Airport and bus/taxi to Svolvær

- Flight to Harstad/Narvik Airport and bus to Svolvær

- Flight to Bodø Airport and Hurtigruten / Havila (Coastal Express) from Bodø 15.00, arriving Svolvær 21.00 

- Flight to Bodø Airport and express boat from Bodø at 18.00 arriving Svolvær at 21.25

Day 2: Saturday

Discover the northern parts of Lofoten

Some suggestions:

- Take a boat trip from Svolvær to see the famous Troll Fjord, do some fishing and spot Sea eagles.

- Visit the fishing village Kabelvåg and the Lofoten Cathedral.

- Bike trip to the picturesque fishing village, Henningsvær (48 km round trip).

- Visit the museums in Storvågan.

- Hike one of the peaks close to Svolvær.

- Bike the northern part of Austvågøy (97 km round trip)

Day 3: Sunday

Bike Svolvær - Hov / Gimsøya, 40 km

Easy day trip with some traffic. A tunnel just before the exit to Henningsvær.

Possible optional routes along the way:

- Henningsvær (picturesque fishing village) - 18 km

- Brenna (Bike along the fjord/ocean front) - 23 km

Accommodation and dinner at Lofoten Links Lodges (some lodges may have shared bathroom).

Play golf on the world-class golf course Lofoten Links.

Day 4: Monday

Bike Hov - Leknes, 53 km

Longer day trip in relatively flat terrain.

Possible optional routes along the way:

- Stamsund and Steine (Fishing Villages) - 14 km

- Sennesvika and Ramsvika (Great views) - 12 km

Day 5: Tuesday

Discover the central- and seaward side of Lofoten

Some suggestions:

- Bike to Uttakleiv the most photographed beach in Lofoten. With the horizon open to the west and north, Uttakleiv is a good location to see the Midnight sun (27 km round trip).

- Bike to Unstad beach, Lofoten’s most popular surfing destinations (42 km round trip).

- Visit the Lofoten Viking Museum in Borg featuring a copy of the largest Viking-era house ever found (28 km round trip).

- Bike to Eggum and visit the rocky coastline past the village (50 km round trip).

Day 6: Wednesday

Bike Leknes - Reine

- Bike Leknes - Kremmervika, 12 km / about 1 hour.

- Bicycle ferry from Kremmervika, departure at 10:00 or 12:00 (earlyest bookings will be on the first departure, as the boat has limited capacity). We recommend spending some time in Nusfjord. This is one of the oldest and best-preserved fishing villages in Lofoten, located in scenic surroundings encircled by steep mountains.

- Bike Nusfjord - Reine, 41 km. You bike most of the distance on E10, with some traffic. There are a few tunnels, but you can bike on the old road outside the tunnels.

Day 7: Thursday

Discover the Southern part of Lofoten

Some suggestions:

- Make a day trip to the small village of Å, at the end of the road E10 (20 km round trip).

- Take a fjord cruise in Kjerkfjorden, walking over to the wonderful beach, Bunesstranda. It is also possible to hike the summit of Helvetestinden (the mountain of Hell), (513 m).

- You can also join adventures like sea rafting, sea fishing or kayak trips in Reine.

Return rental bikes.

Day 8: Friday

How to travel from Reine (not included):

- Bus from Reine to Moskenes (5 km). Ferry from Moskenes to Bodø (4 hrs).

- Bus to Leknes or Svolvær and flight from Leknes Airport or Svolvær Airport.
