Traditional Norwegian fishing experiences
On a fishing trip with XXLofoten, you get an authentic fishing experience on board the MS Symra, a traditional fishing boat that has been in operation since 1917. The vessel is perfectly adapted to the conditions in Lofoten and is protected by the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage.
Our trips start from Svolvær, where we sail past landmarks like the Fisherman's Wife. Our experienced crew will take you to the best fishing grounds based on the season and time of year. You will not only learn to catch fish, but you will also learn how to fillet it on board. And of course, you can take your catch home with you.
There are 10 fishing spots with hand lines on board, so our guests should expect to share space with other participants on this trip. The boat is certified for 38 people, but we take a maximum of 20 guests on each trip and promise you will be well satisfied before we head back to port.
We cannot guarantee a catch, but we do our utmost to find good fishing grounds. The boat trip itself is an experience, especially for those interested in nature, photography, and history. You can expect an educational sea fishing experience, guided by our knowledgeable crew. This trip is suitable for those who have little or no fishing experience.

Fishing trips throughout the year: From Cod to Coalfish
Winter Fishing (February 15 - April 30): Length: 4 hours. 1295 NOK per person.
Experience the traditional and historical cod fishing in Lofoten, an adventure with roots far back in history. The cod, migrating from the Barents Sea to Lofoten to spawn, has been crucial for the region since the Viking Age.
On our fishing trips, you will be told stories and anecdotes that illuminate the rich history and cultural significance of the Lofoten fishery during winter. This combination of practical fishing and cultural insight makes the trip more than just a fishing trip. The winter fishing trip is not recommended for kids under 12 years of age.
Children over 10 years are welcome, provided they are seaworthy. Weather conditions can be challenging, so it is recommended to have an extra fishing day available for possible changes. Remember to dress warmly – it is cold at sea in the winter. We offer shoes for rent for those who need.
Fishing from May 1 to October 31. Length: 3 hours. 1095 NOK per person
Spring, summer, and autumn offer milder weather and good conditions for taking the whole family on a fishing trip. Our vessel Symra has a large deck with plenty of space, and small children can also join the trip. Children under 12 years of age fish together with adults. We offer a family price of 2795 NOK (2 adults and 2 children from 4-12 years). Families then get their own fishing spot on board.
Even if it's summer, it can be cold in Lofoten. Dress accordingly, and feel free to bring a backpack with extra warming clothes. Floating suits are included all year long for all our guests.
3-course dinner from your own catch
You can extend the fishing trip to become a complete full-day experience by having your own catch prepared by professional chefs. After the fishing trip, the fish is delivered to the modern fish processing facility at the new Thon Hotel Svolvær. Here, you will be instructed in handling and filleting the fish. The skilled chefs at Restaurant Brasseriet serve a 3-course dinner, one of the dishes being your own catch.
