Om opplevelsen

Discover the captivating culture and traditions of the Sami people in Kautokeino, the heartland of the Sami people and into the rich nature and culture at the moutain lodges on Finnmarksvidda

Embark on a snowmobile journey through the heart of Sápmi – from Alta to the Sami town of Kautokeino and into the rich nature and culture of the mountain lodges on Finnmarksvidda.

Travel across the vast and breathtaking Finnmarksvidda, where endless white landscapes meet Arctic skies. Accompanied by your local guide, you'll explore untouched wilderness and learn about the traditions and stories that live in this region. This tour lasts 3 days and 2 nights, with accommodation in both hotels and mountain lodges that are only accessible by snowmobile.

Our tour starts in Gargia, where we enter Finnmarksvidda by snowmobile. We travel south towards Kautokeino, a distance of approximately 120 km.

We will stay in a comfortable hotel in double rooms. Single rooms are available for an additional charge. After check-in, we visit a traditional Sami camp for an evening with a reindeer herder and his reindeer. We end the evening in a traditional lavvu around the fire, enjoying a cultural experience and local cuisine. The menu is based on locally sourced ingredients, providing a unique culinary experience. If you wish, you can book your own lavvu for an overnight stay in the camp. This is available as an optional extra. Back at the hotel, you can relax in the Arctic retreat with a sauna and Jacuzzi.

After breakfast, we gear up and continue our journey further into the heart of Finnmarksvidda. Along the way, we stop for lunch at a historic mountain lodge, where we are served traditional local food in a building heated by a wood-burning stove. The focus is always on authentic local cuisine.

After a warm meal, we set course for our destination, Jotka Mountain Lodge, crossing the white wilderness with frozen lakes surrounded by beautiful scenery. By the time we arrive at Jotka, we will have travelled approximately 140 km.

Jotka Mountain Lodge is a traditional mountain lodge and one of only three remaining post route lodges still financed by the Norwegian government. We stay in shared rooms for two or four guests with bunk beds. After check-in, we enjoy dinner in the main house. In the evening, the sauna will be warm, offering an excellent opportunity to relax while keeping an eye out for the northern lights.

After breakfast, we gear up and visit Alta Canyon, Northern Europe's largest canyon, stretching more than 10 km along the river, with cliffs reaching up to 400 metres in height and 400 metres in width. Afterwards, we head back to Gargia. Along the way, we stop for lunch at another historic mountain lodge, where we are served traditional local food.

Our experienced guides ensure a safe and comfortable journey while sharing their knowledge of the area's rich history, wildlife, and traditions.
