We warmly welcome you to explore the magic of the mountains in true Norwegian style, with wide skis under your feet and silence all around you.
Backcountry skiing offers a unique opportunity to move freely beyond the groomed trails, across open plateaus and through peaceful forests. This is nature on nature’s terms – raw, real, and serene.
Unlike ski touring (randonnée), which often focuses on reaching the summit and fast descents, backcountry skiing is all about being present in the moment and enjoying the journey at a calmer pace. The equipment is light and flexible, built for comfort and long adventures.
What will you learn?
Our experienced guides will help you master the basic techniques, with a special focus on safely navigating downhill sections. You’ll also get an introduction to mountain safety, route planning, navigation, and how to pack your backpack for a day outdoors.
This tour gives you confidence, practical skills – and above all, an unforgettable experience in nature.
Practical Information:
- Meeting point: Beitostølen Aktiv & Skiskole office at the Welcome Centre
- Short introduction, equipment check, and plan overview
- Start with a chairlift ride up the mountain, followed by a scenic round trip on skis
- Break in our winter camp or at a scenic spot with hot drinks
- Return to the starting point – either via the ski lift route or a gentler descent through the terrain
- Bring a small backpack for extra clothes.
