About the experience

For you who has some experience with ski touring. You will learn about avalanche safety, trip planning, and rescue techniques.

What you will learn in the course:

There is no exact method for determining avalanche danger. The goal of the course is therefore to make you aware of the factors that influence avalanche danger and how to safely navigate potentially avalanche terrain. You will receive an introduction to snow knowledge, the use of avalanche forecasts, route selection in avalanche terrain, skiing in off-piste skiing, and training in using transmitter/receiver equipment. The course is practical, with an emphasis on applying as many aspects as possible in the field.

Topics Covered:

  • Route Selection – Terrain Assessment
  • Skiing Patterns
  • Factors Affecting Snowpack Stability
  • Use of Avalanche Forecasts
  • Snow Knowledge
  • Group Thinking and Risk
  • Maps and Orientation
  • Companion Rescue Methods with Transmitter/Receiver Equipment (S/M)

Hemsedal

Hemsedal is one of Norway's premier ski destinations, with well-developed ski lift facilities and excellent opportunities for ski touring. However, both the terrain and weather conditions make winter and spring travel here require knowledge of snow, avalanches, and companion rescue. The area is snow-sure and has varying weather conditions, which can provide particularly interesting snow to study.

We have a partnership with Fyri Resort in Hemsedal, which serves as the base for all our courses in Hemsedal. All guests attending our courses receive a 15% discount on accommodation at Fyri. Please contact us if you'd like the discount code. Note: The discount code does not work during Easter and the winter holiday period.
