About the experience
- Experience the refreshing Drivande waterfall on this authentic Norwegian adventure!
Join us on a scenic Bike & Hike tour through the natural and cultural landscapes of the beautiful Mørkridsdalen valley. This guided experience takes you to the impressive Drivande waterfall, where you can feel the refreshing mist from the powerful cascades up close.
Along the way, you will learn about traditional life in the valley and how local families cultivated the land in the area surrounding Mørkridsdalen and Breheimen National Park. Through stories and historical photos, your guide shares insights into daily life, seasonal farming, and the movement of cattle and goats to spring and summer mountain pastures. Discover how people made efficient use of the land and prepared for the long and demanding winters.
The Bike Ride
The tour starts in Skjolden and continues by bicycle through the peaceful Mørkrid valley. The ride covers approximately 7 km one way (14 km total) on mostly flat terrain, making it manageable for most participants. The cycling portion takes about one hour each way, with stops along the route for storytelling and short breaks.
The Hike to Drivande
After cycling approximately seven kilometres, we continue on foot towards Drivande waterfall. The hike takes about 45 minutes at a relaxed pace on a rocky but well-maintained mountain trail. Suitable clothing and footwear for changing weather conditions and uneven terrain are recommended.
At the waterfall, we take a well-earned break. Here you can enjoy a taste of a traditional Norwegian mountain lunch — flatbread and cured meat — inspired by what locals would bring when working in the mountains.
Relax, listen to the rushing water, and take in the dramatic surroundings before we return the same way by bicycle to Skjolden.
